What is the allen wrench used for?

The Allen wrench is used to tighten the legs and other parts of the tripod that may come lose during use especially out in the field or if a single leg breaks it allows you to remove it and replace the leg as opposed to buying a whole new tripod.

The only thing I can see it would be used for is the removal of the legs or possibly to adjust tension of the legs
