Does the wifi connection expose an api or is the app the only way to talk to it?

You can connect to the WiFi using a PC, phone or tablet. Once connected, you can access the console interface built in to the console and configure your station to one of several weather websites. I suppose the console's interface is the api. There is no app like a phone app or anything.
