High quality combination of polarizing filter and black mist for portrait photography
I tested the K&F Concept 2-in-1 filter in the 82mm version for my portrait photography. The filter comes with a cleaning cloth in an innovative case. The storage solution is particularly noteworthy, as the filter is securely held in place inside by silicone inserts. Since the case is designed to accommodate various filter sizes, it's also compatible with other lens diameters.
The filter's build quality is excellent. Despite its dual function as a circular polarizing filter (CPL) and black mist diffusion filter, the mount is surprisingly lightweight. Compared to my regular standard filter, this model is noticeably lighter, which improves handling on the camera. The tactile feedback when rotating the polarizing filter is precise, and the resistance is pleasantly consistent.
In practical use, the optical quality of the Nano-Xcel coating truly shines. The integrated polarizing filter allows me to precisely control reflections on the skin and minimize unwanted shine, thus enhancing the saturation of natural skin tones. At the same time, the 1/4 strength Black Mist component provides a subtle, cinematic look. Highlights gain a soft glow (bloom), and contrasts in the midtones are slightly softened. This results in a natural smoothing of skin texture without completely losing fine details.
Technical features such as ultra-low reflection and true-color properties ensure that no distracting color casts occur. In my tests, I observed very neutral color reproduction, which minimizes post-processing effort. The combination of both effects in a single glass element also saves time when changing lenses and prevents the additional risk of vignetting from stacked filters.
I consider this filter an excellent solution for photographers who want to combine technical control over reflections with an artistic, softer image effect. The material quality and the well-designed case round out the professional package.
