Great trail camera. Also good for security
I have a dozen security cameras around the outside of the house, but I wanted to have the opportunity to capture some nature shots around the yard. This is my first test of a battery-operated trail camera, I've christened it the BirdCam as it will have a permanent residence across from one of our bird feeders. The attached pics are from me basically just slapping it up on a tree, using default settings and not putting a lot of thought into camera placement, etc - other than making sure the target (feeder) was in the field of view. Result? Very nice - in a couple of days I managed to capture some good shots of our resident red-headed woodpecker and a few other visitors (at a clip of about 200 triggered photos/day). Now that I have a little experience with it, I'll play with the settings, mounting angle and distance and I should be able to grab some great shots.I installed 8 rechargeable NiMH batteries, I'm very curious how long it will go between charges -- after I get a few months of cold-weather use I'll add comments back on battery usage.
