Excellent tap to open mechanism, fully articulated head, stable in use, robust build quality.
The K&F team have been hard at work again producing another well designed, well-made and thoroughly useful piece of kit. This selfie stick is probably the best I have owned to date and it addresses the one thing that has been missing on all other selfie stick tripods I have used previously. More of that later.

Outwardly this appears to be just another regular selfie stick / tripod. The legs are made of tough plastic with a carbon fibre effect finish and there is the usual detachable blue tooth remote trigger. It’s a fairy chunky affair at roughly 4cm in diameter and 34cm long.

The neat thing about this tripod is the opening mechanism. They aren't the first to use this method but I am glad they did. The tripod uses a "tap to open" method whereby you tap the bottom on the ground and the legs open up. This particular model needs a little more than a tap, in fact I find dropping it from about 5-10cm works fine. There is a bit of a knack to it but once you get it, it works well. It should be held by the 6cm cylinder at the top of the tripod which houses the head. Let it slip through your fingers and hit the ground. Immediately after it hitting the ground the legs pop open but you need to let your fingers slip up to the head which will by now have popped out. Clinch the head and continue moving your hand upwards lifting the tripod away from the ground and allowing the lags to splay correctly. With a bit of practice this can be done fluently in a single motion. I have tried to capture this in the video.

Closing it is easy. Simply grab the upper cylinder again and lift it off the ground. the legs will snap closed by way of the built in magnets.

This is a game changer for me because every other one of these devices I have used needed to be pried open from the base with the fingers. It was a slow and awkward process. This method is quick and easy and I really like it.

But that is not the best thing that has been fixed for me. One of my main bugbears with regard to selfie sticks has been the inability of the head to rotate relative to the shaft and legs meaning that any rotation in the horizontal plane would require the entire tripod to be turned. So, K&F have fixed this with a fully articulated head which can be tilted and panned independent of the legs. As an added bonus, the head also has a cold shoe socket on top in case you have a separate light you wish to use with it. While we are talking about the head it should be noted that it is fully incorporated into the selfie stick length and sits neatly inside the stick when it is fully closed up.

The height is about 115cm fully extended to the top of the phone bracket. this is adequate for most scenarios. Due to the lightweight nature of such devices, any more height makes the tripod unstable. that said, this is pretty solid on the ground. The rubberised, non-slip feet help in this respect.
If I was to have one gripe it would be that when you want to extend the length and use it as a hand-held selfie stick you need to pull on the top of the head which is sprung to accommodate phones. So, when you pull, initially this is extending (or perhaps compressing) the spring and it just feels like it is exerting too much force on what is probably the most delicate part of the stick. I think if I am doing this regularly, I would tap it open first and extend the stick by pulling from below the head thereby avoiding putting repeated strain on the spring.

I am actually very impressed with this stick, its feels very robust and is completely self-contained. I can easily sling this in my bag and have it ready to use in seconds. Another great product from this brand. Keep them coming.
