Works smoothly and accurately
I bought this to use for astrophotography, and then I discovered how useful a geared head is for lots of other things--almost any time you want to aim accurately and have the camera stay in place with no sagging. It's especially nice with long lenses where a small movement can move the subject right out of the frame.
The main exception is when you want to be able to aim the camera quickly, such as for following a moving subject, and then have it stay put when you let go of it. That's when a gimbal head like the Movo GH700 MK II comes into its own. (You can pay a lot more for a gimbal head, but this one works for me and my budget.
The K&H geared head moves smoothly in all directions and the releases that allow you to make large changes without endless knob turning work well.
