Transformed the professionalism of my video calls
Not too sure why Amazon prompted me to rate this mic’s “sheerness.” That’s odd. Anyway, once the microphones finally arrived, I fell in love with them. The sound quality is good, not great. If you’re expecting wireless mic pack fidelity, you’ll be a little disappointed. I assume this is mostly to do with Bluetooth codec limitations for doing both incoming and outgoing audio. But it also could just be a mic quality issue too. However, don’t get me wrong, the sound is quite good. The proximity you can get makes the audio really clean sounding, but it needs some EQ to really sound its best. That’s not a problem for recorded audio that can be post-processed, but the need for EQ poses a little difficulty in the live audio applications. Most people will not discern anything lacking in the microphone quality, especially compared to Bluetooth headsets, computer microphones, phone call quality, etc... this is a highly noticeable improvement over all of those. For audio fidelity snobs, the problem areas in the EQ curve that seems inherent to this mic is right around 1K. I always pull out about 3-4dB in post production cause this area has a nasal honkiness that isn’t very pleasant.I’m being overly picky here. The usefulness of the mic is where it shines. It’s just so damn easy. I don’t use it with my phone so much. I bought it specifically to run more professional sounding video calls. One mic connects easily to the Bluetooth system on my MacBook. My girlfriend had some issues with her MacBook, but it wasn’t due to the SmartMike. She was just having general problems with Bluetooth audio inputs.Updating her operating system solved these issues, and she now uses her SmartMike for all her video calls too.We bought the two pack so that we could each have one and then combine forces if we ever ran into a situation where we needed to set up send/receive mode for live-streaming on a phone or in a live PA context. We haven’t ran into a situation where we’ve needed to use these mics in that fashion, so I can’t speak to that mode. There are a couple little buggy things that could be improved with Sabinetek’s next model. Primarily, it would be nice to have battery level indication on the device itself. Currently, the only way to see the battery level is to pair it with your phone and check the app. Secondly, a two-device active Bluetooth pairing would be nice. The current model can only pair to one device at a time, and sometimes it’s a little difficult to get it to switch which device it wants to auto connect with. Since it can be used on both a phone and a laptop, I would love to see it have the ability to handle two concurrent connections.I’m only this picky about products that I love, and I absolutely love this product.
