Great inexpensive filter that’s perfect for those looking to reduce their footprint
I’ve been a professional videographer for over ten years and a professional photographer for longer than that. I have dozens of filters from lesser known brands to filters from companies serving professional productions.

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of agile, small footprint shooting and I want a minimal setup. This means no matte box and a selection of circular filters. I use diffusion on almost every shoot, and when I’m outdoors I almost always have a CPL filter attached to cut glare and tame unwanted reflections.

This K&F Concept filter is far from the most expensive circular filter in my kit, but it punches well above its price point.

Combining diffusion with a polarizer is not a new concept, but it is an undeniably practical and convenient one for a multitude of use cases.

This filter is aluminum in build, it’s light weight and knurled to give you grip. The build quality is excellent with not perceptible flaws. The CPL sits on top of the screw on ring and spins independently. The movement is smooth enough if just a little stiff. Well, better than slipping loose but you may need to make sure you have a firm grip to turn it.

Performance wise the amount of glare cut is fantastic. I’d say in the 90%+ region. The filter itself only subtracts around a half to full stop of light which is standard for a CPL.

It’s not entirely color neutral. Using my camera’s auto white balance I can measure that the filter adds up to 200 Kelvin (warmer) and skewers 1.5-2 green. Not bad considering it’s essentially a 1/4 black pro mist. The bloom on the highlights is close to white. There is only a slight lift in the shadows which is expected with a BLACK pro mist.

The diffusion itself sits somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 of other Black Pro Mist filters from a certain well known brand. This is actually a sweet spot for me as a classic 1/4 is too strong for outdoor and brightly lit studio work.

The case is a novel design, but difficult to stack with my other filter cases. I do love that you get a micro fiber cloth with it. It’s a nice touch.
