A sturdy magnetic quick release mount with reliable locking and smooth adjustment
I received this magnetic quick release adapter recently and have had the chance to try it out for a couple of days. I picked it up mainly for action camera filming and quick swapping between a mini tripod and an extension grip, and it has already made my setup far easier to manage.Straight away, the build quality feels reassuring. The main body is aluminium alloy with a dense, well machined finish, and there is no flex even when the locking arms are pressed firmly. The hinge on the foldable connector moves with a smooth, controlled resistance rather than the loose wobble you get on cheaper mounts. The silicone pads inside the cradle are a good touch because they stop the camera base from getting scratched and also add a bit of shock absorption. The magnetic connection is stronger than expected. The quick release plate snaps into place with a clean pull and aligns accurately every time. Under normal movement it stays completely secure, and even during some fast walking tests the plate did not shift or rotate. The double sided press clips make the lock feel positive, and you can hear and feel the engagement when it clicks into position.Compatibility is also quite handy. The bottom has a standard 1/4 inch threaded port, and the double claw on the hinge allows it to act like a traditional action camera mount when needed. This means it can sit on a tripod one moment and then fold into the GoPro style interface the next without needing extra adapters. The foldable section has a decent amount of articulation, though it is worth noting that the hinge resistance is slightly tighter than average. It is fine once you get used to it but may need two hands to adjust quickly. One small drawback is that the magnetic plate sits a little taller than expected once attached. It is not a big issue, but on very compact rigs it adds a few extra millimetres to the height. For general vlogging or tripod work it makes no difference. In real use, swapping between mounts has been noticeably quicker. I tested it on a lightweight selfie grip, a metal mini tripod and an extension arm, and the alignment remained consistent each time. The connection stayed stable even with a heavier action camera attached, which suggests the internal magnet layout and locking points are well balanced.Overall, I’m pleased with it and it has done what I expected.
