This filter creates a special, dreamy quality that can certainly come in handy in certain situations. It's a nice little gadget to have readily available in your camera bag without sacrificing too much light or overloading the image with effects.
But actually, I only keep filters like this in my camera bag out of habit. I can't even remember the last time I screwed a filter onto my lens (apart from this test).
I run every important photo through Lightroom anyway, and if I want to add a little bit of whimsy and dreaminess, it's done with a single click.
