Superior protection.
The aluminum alloy body wraps the camera like a tank, yet leaves all buttons, the battery compartment, and the charging port completely free to access. Two "cold shoe" mounts allow you to attach a microphone receiver on one side and a small LED light on the other simultaneously. The 1/4-inch screw holes and magnetic quick-release interface on the bottom of the cage make switching from a selfie stick to a tripod quick and easy. The cage doesn't obstruct the 360-degree view during shooting, a testament to its excellent engineering. The included silicone lens cap is a great detail; original lens caps can sometimes feel too small when the cage is attached. While the metal construction adds a slight weight, the peace of mind you get from carrying the camera in a bag and feeling secure in strong winds and impacts is definitely worth the difference.
