This is a cold shoe to quarter inch mount. Perfect for mounting a monitor or light that you want at an angle and rotated. So the bottom is a standard cold shoe base, but it will also except a quarter inch screw you locked the cold shoe with the thumb screw and then on the other end is another quarter inch screw that also has two retractable anti-twist pins. Between that is an articulating joint as controlled by a cam knob. The joint is rather stiff so if you have a heavy monitor, you'll appreciate it, but if you're trying to move it without anything mounted to it, it can be a little stiff. Then the most important part is the 360° swivel. So between the body of this device and cold shoe part is a bearing swivel that gives you smooth 360° rotation. However, if you wanna lock down the rotation to the angle that you're happy with you have tilt worn the utility arch that's holding the quarter inch mount screw out-of-the-way and it reveals an Allen key screw that you can tighten down with the provided tool and prevent any further rotation.This is a well built camera accessory. It is all metal. All the parts are machined well so there's no sharp or uncomfortable corners. My only complaint is how stiff the tilting mechanism is, but then again if you've got something heavy on there, it's probably a better thing.I think this is a good value for a high-quality machine camera accessory that gives you a lot of ability to make adjustments and then lock them in once you get the angles you want.
