These work beautifully once set up is finished. I have them set to heartbeat which helps me rest in the evening. It has an array of colors you can choose from and you can even create your own. You can even set them to interact with your radio or television! Overall good so far. I can't tell you about the shelf life seeing as I've only had them a short while. Still in all, very satisfied so far!!!
