The tripod comes with an Arca Swiss type release plate and base (see photo in the Amazon advertisement). It is a good size plate 47x48mm.

I have used it for this very reason and picked this up just for the purpose of long exposure photography. I dont have a lens that is quite fast enough yet, but i have some nice shots of the stars and if you set it up for a delay and long exposures it keeps the camera rock solid!

Yes, the ball head is a standard screw mount and comes detached for shipping.

Yes - the head can be removed by turning it counter-clockwise to unscrew it from the threaded center post if you want to attach a video panning head or some other accessory.
