Matte Box Kit with 2 Lens Frames and 67/72/77/82/95mm Adapter, Suitable for 4x5.65" Square Filters

I have no prior experience with matte boxes, so I had no idea what to expect with this K&F Concept Mini Matte Box. First of all, this is a very well made product. Most of the matte box appears to be made of aluminum, with a few small plastic parts and the top and side wings made of carbon fiber. This makes the entire unit very light; I barely noticed the difference in weight with this mounted to my camera. The adjusting knobs work smoothly, and the lens adapter screwed smoothly onto my lens. It was also very easy to then mount the matte box onto the adapter after screwing the adapter to the lens. I like that the matte box comes with a variety of adapters to fit common lens sizes; it has adapters for the two sizes I use most, 72mm and 95mm. Finally, I like the very nice hard case that comes with the matte box.

I am not at all sure what I will be able to do with this device. I know that matte boxes are most commonly used with video, which I rarely shoot, but I can already see potential uses for still photography. I experimented with it a little, and I can see already that it offers better control over unwanted light than a lens hood. The matte box has filter holders for rectangular filters, but I already have a large selection of round filters, so I don't anticipate using the filter holders. However, I do see a reason to use this matte box with some round filters. For example, I used it with a variable ND filter that won't work with a lens hood. With this matte box, I can use the VND filter and get better control over unwanted light than I would if I could use a lens hood. The matte box isn't something I will use all the time, but I can see times when it will be just the thing I need.

Overall, the K&F Concept Mini Matte Box is an excellent product that fills a niche for photography hobbyists. Just as it isn't an item to use every day, it isn't an item for every photographer. If a matte box is something a photographer wants, the K&F Concept Mini Matte Box is a great choice. I recommend it and give it five stars.

Its build quality, as expected, is excellent; it feels super sturdy and is very lightweight. It comes with a hard carrying case and metal rings to adapt it to different diameters, from 67mm to 95mm.
Among its features, it allows simultaneous use with filters, adding versatility.

The panels can be easily adjusted and secured in the desired position, simply by tightening the knobs. This prevents reflections on the lens, whether outdoors or in a controlled lighting environment.

There's no doubt that this product is for professionals, given its high quality and versatility. For an average user, a lens hood can serve 90% of needs.
Also, when working for a client, appearance matters, so going with a larger set looks more professional, as some clients may not take you seriously if you go with simple equipment (with which you can do the job perfectly).

In short, I think it's an excellent accessory, very good quality and very useful for professional recordings.

The K&F Matte Box arrives in a beautiful black cardboard box containing a sturdy storage box for safe storage and transport. In addition to the matte box itself, the five included adapter rings (67, 72, 77, 82, and 95mm) also fit securely inside. A small pocket in the lid also offers space for masks, filter gels, or other accessories.

A matte box, or compendium in German, is primarily known from professional film and cinema cameras. Individual wings can be individually adjusted and shield the shot from reflections or intense light sources. Compared to a standard lens hood, this allows for much more targeted light shielding.

At approximately 20cm wide and 13cm high (without adjusting screws), the K&F Matte Box is a somewhat larger model and can be used quite universally for film and photography. The entire design with its carbon fiber wings is quite professional, however, the K&F matte box is designed for direct mounting on the lens; a rod system with a mount for a rig is not included in the package.

The metal adapter rings can be easily swapped after loosening a large adjusting screw. The adapter rings have an external thread for the lens, but on the inside there is also an internal thread of the same size, into which filters suitable for the lens can be screwed. ND and effect filters can still be used this way.

The selection of diameters is absolutely sufficient. I was able to attach my largest telephoto lens with an 86mm diameter using a converter ring, and I was even able to connect a large mirror telephoto lens with a 95mm diameter directly.

The mount for the adapter rings is removable; two small clamps on the bottom hold the entire thing in place. While removing it is quite easy, attaching it is considerably more difficult. The system is manufactured to a very precise fit and therefore must be reattached very precisely and straight. For quick changes, loosening the adapter ring using the adjusting screw is much easier and faster.

The two side and top wings (= French flags) of the matte box are made of approximately 1mm thick carbon, making the entire compendium quite light at around 360g. The two side wings are approximately 11cm high and 9.5cm wide, while the top wing measures approximately 17 x 13cm. Two additional triangular wings can be added, resulting in an impressive maximum width of 30cm at the front. The left wing (viewed from the lens side) can also be pivoted outward by approximately 2.5cm.

The top wing can be pivoted upward by approximately 135°, then the adjusting screw stops a larger angle, while the side wings can be pivoted sideways by well over 180°.

The interior contains two filter trays measuring approximately 14.5 x 10 cm (internal dimensions), into which filter foils, glass filters, masks, or similar items (4.0 x 5.65 inches) can be inserted. These are secured by an aluminum holder on the side and can be inserted individually or in pairs.

For attaching other accessories, there are two standard tripod mounts (1/4 inch) and a 3/8 inch thread on the top. A cold shoe mount for attaching a microphone, lighting unit, or flash unit has also been included. A thread is also visible on the bottom, but this appears to be a standard 4 mm metric thread, whose possible uses are unclear to me.

Conclusion:
A great, universally applicable matte box, especially for more professional film cameras, but also suitable for more demanding photography (medium format or studio photography). It seems a bit oversized compared to a regular DSLR, but it can still be a top-notch solution in difficult lighting conditions where the standard lens hood fails. The price of just under €140 may seem a bit high at first glance, but it's absolutely justified for the build quality and expandability. I haven't found any real negative aspects, so I give it a full 5 stars.

Picked up this mini matte box with barn doors and French flags, and it’s been a great addition to my camera rig. It does a solid job of blocking out stray light and reducing lens flares, which makes a noticeable difference in outdoor and bright lighting conditions. The barn doors and French flags are fully adjustable, so I can fine-tune the setup depending on the shot. Build quality is solid for the size, lightweight but sturdy, and it mounts securely without adding too much bulk. Works great on my smaller rig, and it doesn’t get in the way when adjusting focus or swapping filters. Definitely gives my shots a more professional look without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for a compact, easy-to-use matte box to control light and cut down on glare, this one does the job well. A nice upgrade for any filmmaker or photographer!

This version is much better than the regular version because you have more control over the lighting and the camera setup looks more professional. Great material. I recommend it 100%.

This matte box is very nice for the price point. The included adapters fit a wide range of lens sizes, making it a versatile accessory for entry filmmakers and content creators. The carbon fiber barn doors with adjustable top door are very sleek looking and keep the weight to a minimum.
Setup is a breeze by following the included instructions, even for those new to matte boxes. And the hard shell case it comes in is a nice touch for that added protection during storage and transport.
I had no issues when using it on a test shoot the other day. It effectively blocked out the afternoon sun glare, which can notoriously throw a wrench in your plans if you aren’t prepared.

This is a great mattebox with a very nice fold down design to easily fit inside a small little travel case. Works extremely well allowing for those nice filters to be used with your camera. simply buy a set and use multiple filters without issue

I'm really becoming a fan of this brand, they consistently come out with reasonably-priced gear for the micro-budget filmmaker. The metal barn doors are durable and versatile, and fit my ZV-E1 camera. The wings give that extra added sun exclusion when working outdoors.

We shoot video and take photographs with a variety of mirrorless cameras. This is a well-made matte box that offers the kind of protection that I'd normally get from a lens hood while adding the ability to add 4x5.65 filters to my rig. It fits a variety of lens, including the 77mm filter size that many of my Canon lens take. Impressed with K&F quality. Recommended.

this comes in a very very nice case this is very lightweight mini box its pro build well made. it has 7 adapters I love everything about this. if I had to have a problem with something I would say they don't sell other adapter for other lens sizes. I did have to get a step up adapter.
