This video light opened a whole range of new photographic possibilities for me. It is called a "video light" and you can mount it on your camera and get lighted videos. It's like having a continuous flash for video. For this use, you want to know that the battery last a long time, and it keeps the charge when not in use. Also you can change the intensity of the light from 5%-100%. Because it is very bright, I find that 5% often suffices. You can also change the light setting from bluish to yellowish. White is somewhere inbetween. I have another one of these lights from a video camera, and it seemed more intensely yellow and blue; but I realized that it is simply much less intense. So the other light's yellow looks more yellow when I look directly at the light, but I think this one is putting out so much more light that you can't see the different by looking directly at; you need to look at what it does to what it is pointed at. As a video light, this one works very well, but I like it even better as a supplemental mood light or a back light. I can hold it in my hand away from the camera and cast a yellowish light on my subject's face. Then my camera's (Nikon 750) built in flash automatically adjust for the extra light and is much softer. Or I shine it on a face shaded by sunlight to create a subtle bluish cast. It's particularly good for back lighting a subject. Just place it on a surface behind the subject's head--you'll probably need to diminish the intensity--and you get great backlighting. You can do all this with a slave flash as well. But they are expensive and require more experiment and adjustment because you don't know what you're getting until you take the shot. This light is an inexpensive and effective alternative.
