Worth every penny
This ring flash is pretty easy to use. The controls are fairly straightforward which is just as well as the instructions are terrible. The two preview lamps are brilliant and really helpful. The flash at full power is perhaps a little over the top at close settings and can be very bright. But once power was set at a lower setting the quality was beautiful. Soft enough yet bright enough. As an experiment I set it all to fully automated and the camera to P mode. The exposures were pretty much perfect. I’m quite impressed. For the money it can’t be beat I reckon. The manual says the overall weight is 465g but it’s quite well balanced despite the clumsy looking hot shoe unit. I didn’t notice any weight issues nor any imbalance. The main ergonomic issue is that the very thick connection cable has to stretch underneath the lens which is a little annoying but that’s easy to remedy. Just turn the ring unit so that top is bottom. You just have to remember that left flash becomes right flash. The system works well and is logical. It’s easy to fine tune exposure too as it has lots of flexibility. The light is hard at full power on the Sigma Art 50mm but when it was at 1/32 and 1/16 it was really nice. My tests have been limited so far but really promising.
