Must have if you keep a vehicle for over 150K mile
I have used K&N filters for years, I noticed that my MPG had gone down on my Expedition and checked to see if the air filter was dirty, and saw that the dealer had replaced my K&N with a paper filter. I purchased a new K&N and my mileage went up between 1 and 5 MPG. Between the millage and power this is a must have.

Exact fit for OEM airfilter
Recently took the same trip twice, once with OEM airfilter and once with K&N. Got 2 mpg better with K&N airfilter. Roughly 400 mile trip each way. 24 mpg with stock filter are 26.1 with K&N. Was on the interstate running 70 to 75 mph, some city and some backroads for both trips. Each trip I logged roughly 900 miles and lost 2.5 mpg doing the city and backroads but on the trip home each filter went back to their numbers traveling on the main roads. The trip with the K&N filter was hotter than the first trip so we had the a/c running the entire time.

Affordable and great improvement.
The same filter was more than twice this price at the local auto store. Genuine K&N for cheap.

As good as I hoped it would be.
I had no problem with the installation of the air filter. Removed cover, removed OEM filter, replaced it with K&N, replaced cover and put K&N sticker on cover so that my service people would know not to remove the filter. My fuel economy has improved slightly but I'm comparing it to a (pre-K&N) 3000 mile trip that I took. I really expect that there will be a more noticeable improvement in fuel rating once I actually get more highway miles on a fill-up to compare it to.
