Great for an 8 year old
It works great for my niece. She loves making videos in her pool. It is a bit difficult to send the videos via text message, either that, or we haven’t figured out how yet.

A great mic for making youtube videos
This mic looks and feels great - like a tiny version of a professional studio mic. It's solid and comes with a sturdy case, ideal for travelling. The sound quality is very good - its uni direction does cut out most background noise, so if you're in a quiet room the ambient noise is undetectable. It takes a couple of seconds for the condenser to kick in, so they is some static at the start of a recording, but this can be cut out. My only slight negative is its USB mini B socket - it comes with a short lead but these cables are getting harder to find these days if you want a longer one. The stand/clip is strongly sprung, so I wouldn't attach it to the lid of a flimsy laptop, but it stands nicely on the desk and at 30cm away it records fine. A huge improvement over a laptop mic or inline headphone mic.
