A practical 2-in-1 filter that creates a subtle effect
I often shoot landscapes and portraits with the same lens, and switching between CPL and black mist was a hassle, so I decided to install this filter. As a result, I feel that this is a practical filter that has improved the tempo of my shooting style and broadened the scope of my expression.
First, about the CPL performance.
As advertised as True Color, there is very little color shift. While cheaper CPLs can lean towards yellow or green, this filter is relatively neutral. It naturally brings out the blue of the sky and the green of the leaves, and effectively suppresses reflections on the water surface and glass. The polarization effect is sufficient, and the angle adjustment torque is smooth. It is neither too light nor too heavy, making it easy to handle.
The black mist effect is a "subtle" type.
It softens highlights and slightly mildens contrast, but without creating an overly fluffy effect. It just softens the impact on skin and light sources in portraits and backlit scenes. It's particularly easy to use for video, and I was impressed by how well it doesn't look "overdone."
The advantage of the 2-in-1 design is its ease of use.
It eliminates the hassle of changing filters while on location, keeping your bag neat and tidy. This is especially helpful when you want to keep your gear lightweight or when you're constantly on the move.
The optics are also excellent, with minimal flare and ghosting thanks to the 0.1% ultra-low reflectivity and 28-layer nano-coating. I hardly noticed any loss in resolution. The water- and oil-repellent coating is also practical, making maintenance easy when shooting outdoors.
One concern is that the CPL and mist are integrated, so those looking for the maximum effect from each component alone may find it a little disappointing. Also, if you're looking for a rich black mist effect, a separate dedicated filter is more suitable.
Overall, this is a practical filter that's perfect for those who want both natural polarization and a subtle softening effect. It offers a good balance of mobility and image quality, especially for travel, snapshots, and vlogging, making it a lens worth owning.
