K&F concept Action Camera Adapter: A Magnetic Marvel. Get One If You Use a Tripod!
Overall: ★★★★★This magnetic quick-release adapter is a little slice of genius, addressing what I felt was a bit of a missed opportunity with the standard Action 6 mounting solution. I have been using action cameras for donkey's years and, quite frankly, faffing about with screws and fiddly mounts is a genuine drag when you're trying to capture a fleeting moment. The original mount is fine, but the fixed bracket means it's a bit of a pain if you want to pop it on a proper camera tripod without adding a bulky, extra adapter. This K&F concept mount, however, makes switching between accessories a laughably swift process because it integrates both the action camera mount and a proper 1/4" thread. It marries a strong magnetic connection with some clever dual clamp hooks, so the camera doesn't budge even if you're attempting something utterly daft on a mountain bike. I ought to give a special mention to the magnets on the brackets - one magnet on each - which meant that when I took the mounting bracket off the camera ready to mount on a tripod, the brackets fold up by themselves so they don’t dangle around and get in the way when screwing the mount onto the tripod thread. Cool, eh? A lovely design feature from K&F Concept :)Adaptability: ★★★★★It's a genuine Swiss Army knife of an adapter, and this is where it’s really worth its salt. I find that the ability to switch freely between the standard 1/4" interface and the two-claw interface is incredibly practical. The key difference - and it is a big one - is that this mount has the 1/4" screw thread built right in, so you can attach it directly to any camera tripod without a separate plate. Plus, the two-prong bracket cleverly folds flat, making the camera much easier to carry about.Quick Release Mechanism: ★★★★★The 'Magnetic Installation, Ready and Go' slogan is not an exaggeration; it's startlingly quick, and in the same mould as the DJI mount. I'm usually the first to be suspicious of anything with 'quick release' in the name, as it often means 'quick to fall off,' but the combination of the strong magnet and the dual clamp hook arrangement is reassuringly secure. I was expecting a bit of wobble, as some pattern parts aren’t the greatest fit, particularly when mounted to a selfie stick, but it holds the camera steadfast, which is a big tick in my book.Build Quality: ★★★★★It feels absolutely rock-solid and very tough. Judging by the full metal construction, it’ll be around long after my Action 6 has shuffled off this mortal coil. They've been thoughtful enough to include a silicone pad, which, while a small detail, is the kind of thing that prevents those inevitable minor scuffs and scratches on the camera body. It's built like a tank, so you'll probably lose it before it breaks, which, for someone like me, is a distinct possibility.Value at £19.99 ★★★★★Given the sheer amount of versatility and the significant upgrade in convenience it offers over the camera's fixed mount, the twenty quid price of this adapter is easily justified if you use a tripod. It takes a well-designed camera mount and makes it genuinely better to use, saving you time and preventing those infuriating moments of dropping a mount. It’s a worthwhile investment if you're someone who uses your action camera across multiple activities and mounts, particularly if you want to use standard photography tripods without a fuss.
