Exciting filter at a professional price
When I first took the 77mm Black Mist filter from K&F Concept out of the box, I was immediately surprised by the high-quality feel of the brass threads. I already use several ND filters and chargers from this manufacturer – and have had little to complain about so far. The price of €135.99 (as of August 2025) isn't insignificant, but it piqued my interest. I was able to try it out through the Amazon Vine program, which suited me perfectly.

First Impressions and Mounting
The filter screwed smoothly and easily onto my manual video lenses, whether for the GH6 or the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The CNC-machined threads fit snugly; there's no play whatsoever. This is a detail I've experienced differently with other manufacturers, where there's sometimes a slight amount of play.

The Black Mist function isn't just marketing hype; it's genuinely noticeable: highlights acquire this soft, almost dreamy haze without the image becoming milky. Skin looks more natural, and minor imperfections are subtly minimized. This effect proved particularly pleasing when filming in the old town at night – with its lanterns, shop windows, and neon signs. Initially, I was concerned it might look too kitschy, but after a few test clips, it was clear: the look is cinematic, not artificial.

Thanks to the ultra-low reflectivity of the multi-nano coating, I was able to work even in strong backlighting without those unsightly double reflections I'm familiar with from older filters. On the other hand, those who prefer razor-sharp, sterile images might find the slightly diffused look distracting. When shooting extremely detailed landscapes, I briefly questioned whether the filter was the right tool for the job.

Feeling and Benefits
The most wonderful experience was a short shoot in a light drizzle: the raindrops simply beaded up and rolled off, giving the image that soft, almost analog film look I've been trying to recreate in post-production for years. Here, the filter saved me time – and, frankly, a lot of frustration.

My personal review:
A high-quality filter for specific looks, which particularly shines in video and portrait photography. Those who primarily work in documentary or technical fields will need it less, but it's an exciting tool for creative work with light. For me, it remains perfect – not for every shot, but for those moments when the image could use a touch of magic.
