Hi, if you want screw other filter or lens cap on this filter , need larger size than multifuctional filter , if you order 77mm ND2-ND32&CPL filter , the front of lens cap or filter need 86mm, of course you can use filter adapter rings , but too much filter added , it might be caused dark corner.

The plastic is probably a component inside (adjustment ring slider?). The threads and external build is a metal. I’ve had no issues and I have several in different sizes.
