So two things - how good is the filter - and when do you use diffusion.

The filter build quality is actually really nice. The K-Series only has 18 layers of coating vs the 28 layers on the nicer series. But at $50 for two filters, I'm not complaining. It's a clean image without flair or distortion (used individually).

Now, the use of diffusion is mostly for special effects. 95% of the time I'd rather add in image softening in post production (reduce clarity, for instance) vs having my digital file soft. However, if you are doing video work, volume, film, or special effects, this is a great tool.

My favorite use is for Old Hollywood style BW portraits. Use a 1/4 diffusion, convert to BW, add contrast and Grain - and you've got a sexy image with some serious retro vibes. I love it!

As an amateur, I am still learning about lighting and shading. I enjoy natural light and these filters are supposed to offer a softening effect. This seems like a trend currently, as I am noticing a lot of the soft film-like effect (almost blurred but not quite) is prominent. I still have to experiment more with these. I noticed a softening effect, and it was very subtle. The filters were nicely packaged and so easy to install. I have a Canon SL2 (200D) which is a more budget camera from 2018, therefore I selected the 58mm for the 18-55 kit lens.

K&F have been on a tear of quality products lately. This kit of diffusion filters presents an excellent value for any one man show filmmaker.

Ik waardeer de twee intensiteitsniveaus tijdens het fotograferen – ik kan ertussen schakelen afhankelijk van het onderwerp, wat mijn creatieve mogelijkheden vergroot.

Tot nu toe heb ik geen problemen ondervonden; alles is betrouwbaar en gemakkelijk te gebruiken. Een dikke vijf sterren.

If you don't know much about black diffusion, this filter diffuses light sources and creates a glow around the light sources, sort of like a halo effect around the lights. It will also help take away some of the sharpness that comes from today's super high quality digital cameras. This kit come with a 1/4 & 1/8th version so you can decided the strength of the effect you need. I am partial to the 1/4th myself, but they both give a great look! If you wanna get crazy you can screw them both together!

I've been working with black diffusion filters for a few years now, and have amassed a small collection, including the classic Tiffen Black Pro Mists and a handful of various cheaper off-brands.

Like all 1/8 and 1/4 strength black 'mist' diffusion filters, these have a subtle effect that you'll want to apply selectively, depending on your creative vision for what you're shooting.

I'd put these up against my Tiffens in terms of quality of both construction and effect, and at ~$45 for the pair, they're a great way to play with this effect without breaking the bank. I can recommend these without hesitation.

My Nikon DSLR camera is well beyond my skills, and this was my first use of any lens filter. I have always kept a Tiffen UV protector on the lens, and these work the same way, including in any combination. They're a little narrower than my old uv protector, but still easy to connect to the lens, remove, and rearrange.

I snapped a set of simple sunny, outdoor nature photos with all combinations of the filters within a few minutes. When I first reviewed the photos I thought the differences were unnoticeable, but putting them side by side on the same screen shows that there really is a meaningful effect even with my uninformed & effortless experiment. Subtle even with both the 1/4 and 1/8 combined, but it will be a fun project for me putting them to more use and learning how they'll change the photos in different environments.

Soften ups the image without altering the color too much, which makes things easier in editing if you're working from a LUT

Admittedly, I have never used a Black Diffusion filter before so this was a bit of a learning experience. The filters themselves come well packaged in a nice plastic case to protect them. They simply screw onto the end of your lens. The filters have nice grips to help enable you to put them on and take them off. There are also a few lens cleaning cloths included.

These filters fit easily screwed onto my Canon EF lenses. I initially tried a simple portrait shot before and after. The after image was slightly softened and some minor reflective glare was reduced to nearly nothing. I liked my After shot better than my Before shot in this case. However, it is important to note that the results you get will vary depending on your lighting.

Next, I set up a shot with a light source in the background. The result was a bit surprising as I got a bit of a halo effect when using the filter.

To me, the effects of this filter may be subtle or they may be more pronounced and that will depend on how you set up your shot and where the light source is. I found these filters to be a pleasant surprise. For me, there will be a little bit of a learning curve to determine when I might want to use these.

This is a nice quality filter set to add some interesting softening effects to your pictures.

I got this to use when making movies primarily to add some atmosphere and/or softening to the shot.

The metal feels nice and solid and has some ridges to grip them which is nice. I tested with the camera pointing into glare and with the glare behind me. I like the effect, for me the 1/8 and 1/4 are plenty, plus you could stack them if you really wanted to increase the effect.

It came with 2 sealed microfiber cleaning clothes, a nice touch.

If you are looking into the light the effect is pronounced and you get some nice haloing.

Overall a great filter set at a reasonable price. Especially if it is something you want available but will not use all the time.
