82mm Black Mist 1/8 Filter with Brass Frame, Ultra Low Reflection, Mist Soft Glow Diffuser Lens Filters with 36 Multi-Layer Coatings - Nano-X Pro Series
SKU: KF01.3130
For some time now, brands like K&F have been making quality filters accessible to a growing number of users. Previously, filters of this caliber required an investment of two to three times more. Now, you can get them at a price that, while not cheap, is much more reasonable without sacrificing quality.
The first thing you notice upon receiving it is the build quality, with a metal frame and glass that doesn't feel fragile. The filter has a good weight, neither too heavy to unbalance the lens nor so light that it feels cheap. The 36 layers of nano coating aren't just a marketing term; when working in challenging conditions such as backlighting or nighttime scenes with many light sources, the low reflectivity (specified at 0.15%) is immediately noticeable, eliminating those annoying ghosting effects that ruin so many shots.
I've conducted several tests comparing this filter with similar effects in post-production, and the difference is substantial. The effect it achieves on the skin is soft and natural, blurring imperfections without looking artificial—something that's very difficult to replicate in post-production. And consider the number of hours you save.
The 1/8 effect is subtle but definitely noticeable, ideal for those seeking that cinematic touch without overdoing it. Intense highlights acquire a soft halo that adds character to the image, and skin tones appear more even without losing texture. In video, it's especially useful for creating that film look that's so sought after these days. However, it's important to keep in mind that it's not the right filter for every situation; in landscape or architectural photography where the goal is to capture maximum detail, this filter can reduce sharpness, albeit very subtly.
The thread fits lenses perfectly, without getting stuck or loose, which facilitates quick changes between shots. The price may seem high compared to other options on the market, but after trying cheaper filters that generated unwanted color casts or uneven effects, it's a worthwhile investment for the consistency and quality of the results.

When I first took the 77mm Black Mist filter from K&F Concept out of the box, I was immediately surprised by the high-quality feel of the brass threads. I already use several ND filters and chargers from this manufacturer – and have had little to complain about so far. The price of €135.99 (as of August 2025) isn't insignificant, but it piqued my interest. I was able to try it out through the Amazon Vine program, which suited me perfectly.
First Impressions and Mounting
The filter screwed smoothly and easily onto my manual video lenses, whether for the GH6 or the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The CNC-machined threads fit snugly; there's no play whatsoever. This is a detail I've experienced differently with other manufacturers, where there's sometimes a slight amount of play.
The Black Mist function isn't just marketing hype; it's genuinely noticeable: highlights acquire this soft, almost dreamy haze without the image becoming milky. Skin looks more natural, and minor imperfections are subtly minimized. This effect proved particularly pleasing when filming in the old town at night – with its lanterns, shop windows, and neon signs. Initially, I was concerned it might look too kitschy, but after a few test clips, it was clear: the look is cinematic, not artificial.
Thanks to the ultra-low reflectivity of the multi-nano coating, I was able to work even in strong backlighting without those unsightly double reflections I'm familiar with from older filters. On the other hand, those who prefer razor-sharp, sterile images might find the slightly diffused look distracting. When shooting extremely detailed landscapes, I briefly questioned whether the filter was the right tool for the job.
Feeling and Benefits
The most wonderful experience was a short shoot in a light drizzle: the raindrops simply beaded up and rolled off, giving the image that soft, almost analog film look I've been trying to recreate in post-production for years. Here, the filter saved me time – and, frankly, a lot of frustration.
My personal review:
A high-quality filter for specific looks, which particularly shines in video and portrait photography. Those who primarily work in documentary or technical fields will need it less, but it's an exciting tool for creative work with light. For me, it remains perfect – not for every shot, but for those moments when the image could use a touch of magic.

I ordered the Neewer 82mm Black Mist 1/8 filter for my Nikon lens and I think it's well-made. The filter fits perfectly, and the housing around the glass is made of brass.
I also appreciate that the filter comes in a slim, sturdy storage box and case. This makes it easy to store and transport safely. The box can also be used as a picture frame, which I think is a great, modern, and stylish idea.
But back to the main point. With the filter, background lights appear slightly more diffused and have a subtle glow. This creates an atmospheric effect, which I really like. I mainly use the filter for portraits.
I'm very happy with my new lens accessory and I enjoy using it. It deserves five stars.

This K&F black mist filter is awesome - The optical clarity is really good and it comes with a nice, plastic-free case to keep the lens in. Black Mist filters are great to create a nice and soft cinematic look. The body is well machined. From previous experiences with this brand, their customer support is awesome and their products last a long time - I still have lens filters from 5 years ago that work like new! They're pretty scratch resistant as well. I would honestly not choose anything but K&F concept lens filters at this point, they make awesome stuff and I'm really happy about receiving this - I can confidently recommend this!

I primarily use this filter for video recording with prime lenses, and it delivers exactly the effect I was hoping for: soft contrasts, subtle blooming of light sources – all without looking overdone.
