The K&F Concept 82mm Linear Mirage Pentaprism Filter:

The first BIG surprise about this filter is... yes, it's thick. And heavy. A lot of glass for the money - and a lot of fun!

Technically speaking, it's a sheet of glass about one centimeter thick, half of which is smooth and then slopes down at an angle - with four edges that each act like flat prisms. The effect: one half of the subject remains as it is, while the other half is refracted and thus duplicated. To make the effect controllable, the filter can be rotated like an ND or CP.
The effect is initially difficult to judge in the viewfinder/on the display; it certainly requires some practice.
Speaking of practice: the filter itself is easy to grasp, but its application and possible effects are a matter of trial and error. This is definitely a filter that begs to be taken out and tried out.

In my opinion, like similarly constructed effect filters, it works best with high-contrast subjects and strong lights (traffic, nighttime). Personally, I wouldn't use it as a portrait filter—it's not my style. However, I see real strengths, especially for night shots (unfortunately, I couldn't take it due to the persistent rain over Pentecost).
I took a few photos with it, which hopefully show the effect clearly.

The filter is also quite interesting for video (see short example). However, since it protrudes far, it is likely to produce strong flaring—which can be very exciting.

Conclusion: Very good workmanship; I can't detect any aberrations.
A creative toy worth exploring. I'm looking forward to it!

The moment I ordered this filter I regrated it, not because I knew it would be terrible, K F Concepts makes reasonably decent gear. But rather, it’s prism effect is pointless when photo editing apps are ubiquitous. And when you use an app you have precise control over the image and don’t need to permanently embed the effect on to the picture as you do with a filter. So I knew even before the lens came I had no real use for it. This is the trouble having G.A.S., gear acquisition syndrome, will get you into.

But I have so here’s my opinion of its build quality and experience with it. The filter is a thick slab of glass cut at an angle and terraced, so it gives off a “double vision” effect. It has an adjustment wheel like you’d find on a variable ND or CPL filter to adjust the angle. That’s the nub of it. It’s heavy for a filter and because it’s so thick it’s impossible to put a lens cap on it. So, it’s the kind of filter you install with a specific idea in mind and then remove.
It’s probably best for studio work rather than outside. Because the glass extends so far out it’s very easy to scratch.

As far as output quality I’ve upload a few photos I took with the filter on. They were taken with a Canon R5 II body and Canon RF 24-70 F2.8 so any lack of sharpness is the filter, not the equipment. I’ll let you judge for yourself if this filter is useful to you or if you’d be better off just simulating in a photo editor. For sure, the filter is quicker if you don’t want to muck with a photo manipulation app.

Looks cool and gives an artistic feel to your photos. Auto focus struggles quite a bit, but eventually nails it. I have only used in testing as you can see by my photos.

The filter is made of solid glass, which gives it a certain weight. The optics are great, though.
The thread is clean.
A few cleaning cloths are included.
The filter comes in a small plastic box with a foam mount.
I think the effect is cool, especially for portraits.
