Previously, I Purchased a Magic Arm from SmallRig. It was the best to secure my $1000 Atomos Monitor without "Slouching." I thought it was the best I ever had. This device is just as strong and vital when taking my gear on the road. This device is a keeper.

This magic arm certainly has many practical uses and is much smaller than I imagined it would be. I’ve put it to test across a few of those. It assembles easily and you can hold items up to 1.5kg attached to it. The clamp is a strong attachment to any flat surface such as a desk or cupboard door or just about anything else and holds anything from camera to monitors from the other ends of it. The grip is very strong but it’s worth noting it needs to be an attachment which has the screw mount hole as it holds it by this (which covers most photography purposes at least but means phones are out of the option list)! It’s a very versatile accessory to have about the place so definitely extends the range of angles to make things happen from thanks to the strong arms and directions that can be created from them. I think it’s not the cheapest item ever but if you’re getting this for a specific purpose it’s well worth the investment as a quality product.

It turned out that I bought the version with a cold shoe. In fact, the version with a 1/4 screw would have been better for me. However, when I received the product, I realized that when you unscrew the cold shoe, you get a 1/4 screw — exactly what I actually need.

So I started disassembling. I'm a big, grown and strong man, but it took me so much effort that I was really surprised. The screw was coated with a special adhesive and was virtually indissolubly connected to the nut.
After applying a great deal of effort, I finally managed to loosen the screw.

I'm writing this because I've read in some reviews that parts of other buyers have supposedly come out of their own accord. If this happened to you, then either you had a faulty product or the manufacturer has now converted the materials to ultra-strong components.
At the moment, it is virtually impossible to solve anything — everything is bomb-tight! I can therefore only recommend the product.

The only downside — but that's my personal case: The device weighs 100 grams + the monitor also weighs decent.
When I attached the whole thing to my Zhiyun Weebill 2, the gimbal immediately complained because the entire construction had shifted the weight to the right. But that is not the fault of the manufacturer. There is simply too much weight on one side.

I then played a bit with the tilt angle to compensate for the weight shift, and now the problem with the gimbal warnings rarely occurs.

Fantastic bit of kit for the money. Not your usual cheap Chinese rubbish.

The quality of this is excellent. Once tightened up it basically doesn't move until you undo it again. It's rock steady, feels excellent quality and does exactly what I wanted it to do. No complaints from me!

I use this to attach one of my larger field monitors to an FX3 rig using a cold shoulder mount on the handle, it may be simple but it works perfectly.
Of course, there are probably a million other uses for it that I haven't explored yet but for this one thing alone it was worth ordering!

Price at time of review was £20, which gets you the MS27 Magic Arm with Cold Shoe and 1/4 Inch Screw. This item is beautifully made and finished, it locks very firmly with a half-twist of the orange thumb lever. There's rubber rings around the ball heads which helps avoid 'creep' due to the weight of a field monitor etc.

There's ample flexibility to adjust the cold shoe and 1/4" screw, each end can be independently rotated and tilted. I can see this being used to hold Camera Field Monitor or LED panel.

All in all, if you can get for £20 or less I'd recommend.
