62mm Black Mist 1/4 + 1/8 Filters Kit Black Diffusion Cinematic Effect Filters Set with Multi-Layer Coated for Camera Lens Nano-Klear Series
SKU: SKU.1713V1
The 82mm Black Mist 1/8 filter gives a nice soft, cinematic glow to highlights without losing too much sharpness. It reduces digital harshness and adds a subtle dreamy atmosphere to both photos and videos. Build quality feels solid, and it fits my lens perfectly. A great tool if you want to achieve a more film-like look.

This pair of diffusion filters is the perfect kit for someone getting started or someone needing to add some options to their camera bag. Diffusion filters are very subjective and, much like seasoning to a recipe, depends on the person's particular tastes and preferences. As such, I really like that this comes with not only one diffusion filter, but a second one in a different power. This actually gives you three options, since the filters will also stack and combine, though with much greater softness in the image.
I tried these out in three configurations and included some sample images and video to help others see how it may affect the image in different situations. I found these to be very pleasing effects, even on the extreme end with them stacked. And as a great bonus, there is almost no noticeable color cast in these, something not usually the case in the more "budget" level filters. These filters easily outperform their price point, particularly considering you get two of them.
These especially did a great job when there are obvious light sources in the images, such as in the night-time example. The lights are encircled by a wonderful glow that adds a little something special to the image and brings down the harshness in a pleasing way without removing the details in the image.
I really enjoyed using these filters and I can't wait to keep trying them out in different situations to see how they do. I recommend keeping them in the camera bag and trying them out in all your shoots, just to see what may happen.
Since these filters only really fit in their case when they are stacked together, make sure you don't tighten them down too much. This goes for mounting to the camera too, or they will get stuck. However, this applies to every filter brand and isn't specific to this one. I only mention it because they need to be combined to fit into the case. Of course you can always use a different case if you don't like this aspect.
As a side note, K&F has continued to impress me with their products. I own several at this point and haven't been disappointed by any of them. And at their usual price points, even if it's something you don't use all the time, it's worth adding it to the collection for either trying something new, or something to spark some creativity when you're feeling a bit bored.

I have become a great fan of K&F filters. They are machined well and easily screw onto my lens and other filters. I have a small complaint, I use smaller 58mm filters on my primes and this filter comes in a large box. Makes it difficult to pack.
The Black Diffusion filter adds a slight glow around highlights and does not affect the darker areas. I did a test using each filter separately and then together. The differences are very subtle. If you look at the water reflection the filter adds an impressionistic glow to the light reflection. Also note the focus on the foreground bushes stays sharp. It also does a good job of adding a little Hollywood to skin tones (Not shown). It is much better alternative than adding a glow in post modifying the entire frame.
Seems like a good value for quality filters.

the frame is a little thicker than other filters but does make the skin a little more pleasing
the frame of the filter is a little thicker than others but there was no vignetting in my 28-70mm lens. it may my skin look a little less dry, which is good. it smoothed it out a little as well.

I have tried, and own, different grades of black diffusion filter. I think for its subtle effect, this 1/8 filter is my favorite. The smooth look, and highlight diffusion that you get with these filters, is either an acquired taste, or a specific characteristic that you're looking for in your shots. I personally don't use them all the time, but it is nice to bloom the highlights in certain scenarios. The 1/8 filter is very subtle in the daylight, but I found excels at night. You can of course, use it with decent effect during the usual golden hours, as the intensity of the highlights then, may be more visibly changed by this filter, photographically. In the daytime, with the sun right above you, it's hard to notice much of a difference. For video, it does an interesting effect, and may be something that you can apply to specific scenes, or just to unsharpened some of the digitized look from most cameras. Quality of the filter is very nice, made of good materials, and with nice coatings. It comes well packaged, in your standard plastic case, as well as included sealed microfibre cloths. It is affordably priced, and performs very nicely, for that price range. It doesn't in any way appear cheap to me, and like mentioned before, I do like the subtlety of this gradient. It's certainly good for the camera bag, and would be interesting to try with some golden hour portraiture. For video, I'd say it's limited to dreamlike sequences, and better suited for golden hour, and night time. All in all, I'm very pleased, and if you're looking for a 1/8 black diffusion filter, this one is a good choice.

I have quite a collection now of K & F concept accessories & I think they have found the right balance of quality & value for all their products. Everything I’ve gotten is really well made. They even included a few microfibre cloths.
The set of 1/4 & 1/8 gives me options & was better priced than most companies single filters. My intended use is to soften harsh light sources at night (but if you are looking to buy one, you already know their uses I suppose)
The only minor wish is that they sized the carry case to fit each size filter (I know I’m asking a bit much as it would be a greater expense to make for each size) as carrying a case twice the size of the filter is wasting space in my bag as I don’t leave black mist filter permanently attached to the lens. Oh & doesn’t have a thumb nick to help open the case, so it’s a bit fiddly. But to be honest many photographers probably have their own filter cases. I’m just cheap & expect the world to bend to my wishes mwahahahaha..
I recommend you explore K&F’s other products. I used to buy their products from other Chinese distributors, but Amazon Australia is now price competitive & has faster delivery, like a few days vs what was sometimes a couple of months with the other distributors

For the price, this thing is incredible.Quality is totally fine for the price. The effect is most extreme when the dynamic range is greater, such as bright lights or backlit scenes. It's subtle enough to leave it on my lens and not even think about it. Image quality is great.

Let's start from the assumption that I purchased these filters and they were not sent to me to review them for free like other people, so I will give an unconditional and objective opinion.
Having said that, I chose not to return them and keep them with me because they are truly unbeatable in quality/price.
Specifically, I have absolutely not found any cons worthy of note but only pros, such as:
- Truly exceptional quality/price, with the cost of a black mist of any other brand you take home two with intensity 1/8 and 1/4 allowing you to modulate the effect based on different situations and conditions.
- Not excessive effect: for me it is absolutely a pro, because the effect that is given especially with the 1/8 is very limited but present, allowing you not to ""wash out"" the contrasts while always maintaining excellent blacks with a slightly more ""dreamy"" effect of the lights.
- threading on BOTH filters FORWARD and BEHIND! This is a fantastic thing because you can not only mount the 1/8 and 1/4 filters directly on top of each other to maximize the effect, but you can also mount an ND filter at the same time and this is the TOP.
I have attached 4 photos taken with Sony ZVE10, Sigma 16mm, F1.4, ISO125 in a completely dark room. The first photo is without filters, then 1/8, 1/4, 1/8+1/4.
I hope I was helpful.

1/8 is the perfect diffusion. takes the edge off without getting all 'ethereal' or unrealistic looking. seems to help with Sony on making the digital feel less pronounced. only weird artifacting you get is at the super wide end, closer to 16mm (full frame) so i don't use it on my 16-35.
