A great addition to the Canon 'nifty fifty' lens
I have been using these accessories on the 50mm prime lens for a Canon SLR - the famous 'nifty fifty', which is a very popular alternative to the standard kit lens and quite rightly so. This package is a very good way to get a decent range of filters for it without breaking the bank. The UV filter is worth keeping on all the time to protect the lens itself from scratches, and the polarising filter can be very useful for shotting through glass or water where you will get all sorts of reflections. The other filters are for more artistic uses, applying a graduated colour across a scene. Sure, you could just take snaps and do all that in photoshop, but it is much more satisfying to do it the old-fashioned way. It feels a lot less like cheating. There are a couple of pouches included. One holds three filters and the other holds six. They are well-padded and so quite bulky, but not enough to be a problem if you have a proper camera bag, and they close up with velcro fasteners. Also included is a lens cap. All lenses come with one anyway so this isn't essential, but well worth having as a spare, just in case. It has a strap that you can attach to it with a self-adhesive pad so as not to lose it. I don't think I will use that as I have managed to not lose any lens caps so far, though I may well find another use for it.Completing the set is a cleaning cloth and a lens hood. The jury is out on whether hoods are really essential, but it certainly looks good.I think my other lenses are going to be getting very jealous of the nifty fifty from now on!For info: this review is based on a free sample provided by the manufacturers for review purposes.

Excellent lens!
So glad I decided to purchase this lens. I always hesitate on buying things, but so glad I decided to purchase it. Takes excellent photos and I don't have any complaints about it. I have multiple photo shoots coming up so I am very excited to use this lens and see what kind of photos it produces! The day it arrived, I took this pictures that I added.

Amazing lens!!!
I'm not an expert. You can find technical reviews by those guys and girls below. I want to say to fellow beginners, this lens is awesome if you are looking for sharp subjects and soft, blurred backgrounds/foregrounds. It is the first "upgrade" I've purchased for my Canon 550D and I'm blown away by it. I don't have a whole lot of comparitive experience with lenses, so I can't say it's better or poorer than this or that. It's obviously has advantages over the Canon 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera, namely it's larger aperture. This makes for a very shallow depth of field set to f1.8. I'm talking I heald the camera at arms length for a selfie and the stubble on my chin was in perfect focus, while the stubble on my jaw back towards my ears was starting to blur. The background just disappears into soft glowing orbs. Beautiful. If you shoot in manual mode (as you definitely should learn to do) this is easy to account for and adjust by closing the aperture (raising the number from 1.8 and decreasing your shutter speed until you have the depth of field you want. The larger aperture also allows for significantly better performance in low light situations. There is no zoom factor with this lens, but the autofocus seems to work great. Video is beautiful as well. If you like to experiment and be creative, you'll love this lens. I'm including a photo of a football that was my 3rd test shot out of the box. It illustrates some of the effects I've mentioned.

Awesome lens, Love it!
I purchased this 50 mm for my older t3i and wow, does it take excellent photo's. The pictures are crisp and sharp, The bokeh is amazing at f 1.8 and love it. Just remember if you are on a crop sensor aka not a big full frame camera, it wont be a 50mm on your camera technically. Whatever lens you put on a crop sensor is x 1.6 for canon so off the top of my head i think it is a little below 80 mm on a crop sensor which is great for portraits. I bought this one because it also works on my 5d mark iv as a 50 mm, and didnt have a prime 50mm for it. Either way it is a good all around lens you wont be disappointed and is a cheap upgrade from the kit lens that produces amazing photos for a great price. I record video a lot with it also on my t3i and works fantastic for that.

For an entry-level camera this has given me far more than entry-level results. This is the only DSLR I could afford, and for the money I payed for it I was very pleased. Even with the 18-55 (which has crapped the bed) I was able to get great results even though I had to manual focus the whole time because the lens sucked! Check out my pictures at ([...]) All the pictures on there were taken with the XSi with the 18-55 kit, with the exception of like three pictures that were taken with a crappy fujifilm point and shoot. The camera itself is great. It may not have great build quality, but as long as your not thrashing it around it will hold up... The most important thing about this lens you need to know is KEEP IT CLEAN..don't take off the lens and leave the mirrors exposed..that was my biggest mistake!

Wonderful Lens!
Seriously the best purchase I have made in a while. This thing is awesome in low light and takes beautiful photos. My only regret is that I waited so long to get this. I just had a kit zoom lens and I think it is awful ( I just out grew it I guess). With this I actually only shoot in Manual Mode and quite effortlessly too!

Great Lens!
I wanted a lens to blur the background and highlight the object in the foreground and this lens does that easily and very well for the money. I use it on my Canon T6i.
