I used this for the Aug 21 eclipse. I was able to point my Canon DSLR directly at the sun. The filter can be set dark enough that you'll need to open up the F stop and slow the shutter speed to get images of the bare sun. At the deepest part of the eclipse, I had to open up the F stop quite a ways, and slow the shutter to 1/800. Obviously start with the most restrictive settings and open up from there.

I feel that it's a very good quality for the price. After buying a higher-quality more expensive ND filter I realize that you get what you pay for.

I received this filter in good order and in good time. Quality seems good. This was my first experience with a neutral density filter which I used during the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. I primarily used it as extra protection as I also used an inexpensive solar filter. I look forward to experimenting with it as it provides a variation of light. To do anything with direct sun light takes a stronger ND filter than this one. It did work well during totality (2 min. 36 sec) although we had clouds so the variable filter without the solar filter allowed me to experiment a bit. However, I tried to give limited time to this so as to experience the grander effects of totality.

Wasn't sure about the variable fader, concerned it wasn't strong enough.Excellent quality and performance, easiest handling. Took photos of partial solar eclipse and even direct sunlight. Simple twisting adjusts brightness from next-to-fully transparent to pitch-black. Never seen such a thing.This is a must-have item for creative photography. Arrived quickly.

Simple to use, even with no instructions. Not happy with the ghosting of bright light, but will figure how to work around it. Pictures are nicely enhanced, colors are vivid.

I guess for the price this is ok. It does work and is sorta smooth but compared to more expensive versions it is far less smooth feeling. Optically I cannot say if this KF model is ok but I would say as a back up VND it is decent. When you twist it there is a bit of a grinding feel to it. I am not sure that gritty feel will go away in time or not. Now compared to housebrands I have tried from large photo stores I would say this product is better and cheaper. BUT compared to a Tiffen for over $100 this KF is not quite as smooth. Optics don't know.

I do 4K video and use these to get the correct shutter speed. There is no loss of sharpness. Great variable for the money. Although I wish you could put a lens cap on these.
