I used this microscope to inspect soldering on student assembled projects and to look for shorts on flight controller boards for quadcopters. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it did the job. First, having battery power is great because you can use it anywhere. Being able to take pictures and record video is very useful, and some samples are included. The highest magnification is only possible if you remove the light diffuser that's on the end of the lens assembly. At that magnification, you can see the smallest details of printed circuit boards, and spot shorts between surface mounted components. Zoomed out a bit is useful for identifying chips on a board. The included light is sometimes overwhelming, and creates unhelpful reflections. In that case, it's better to shine in another light from the side. The sensor uses autobrightness to set the picture brightness level. This sometimes washes out super bright parts of the image because the rest is darker. An improvement would be to let the user set the image brightness level to tone things down to see the bright parts. Connecting the camera to a laptop is a great way to see a huge version of the picture, and makes it great to do work live under the scope. You just need to raise the lens high enough to work under it, which reduces the magnification a bit. Overall, a good value for the functionality you get.

This is actually so great, because you don’t need a computer or a smartphone to make it work. It’s a standalone unit, and that is much better, in my opinion, than being reliant on another device. The picture quality and the quality of the images you can get are incredible. Unbelievable detail. The stand is all but useless though, cool looking as it may be. It’s top-heavy and falls over if you breathe in its direction. So as long as you’re ok with holding this in your hand to use it, and you aren’t counting on the stand at all, then this is awesome for sure.

I was using the 4 inch model and had no idea what I was missing. Definitely worth the price.

My husband recently got into the horology hobby (timepieces, watches). His swing-arm magnifier light wasn't quite up to the task of magnifying tiny watch parts, so I got him this for the really close-up work. He's pleased with the image quality and brightness. What this is really useful for is recording the disassembly process on timepieces. He can look through the video to see exactly how everything fit together. He found the microscope as configured didn't allow room for screwdrivers and other tools, so he modified the design by extending the post with a section of wooden dowel and inserting the dowel into a flat piece of wood so the microscope could be farther away from the objects. I will update my review with photos once it's published.

Seller: Fast, super fast shipping. Packed well.

Scope: Easy to set up and easy to use. I use it for coins. Older coins show up like a concrete highway, scratches, pits.... but new BU coins show up with a mirror finish. Some dates were hard to see by eye or even a magnifying glass, but easy with this scope. Easy to hook up to my computer and save images. All in all for a coin collector it is a perfect choice. Also side note. When not in use, easy to disassemble and put back in the box for storage and then easy to set back up. 5 minutes max.
