I have a few black mist type diffusers, including the more expensive K&F Nano-X, and even more expensive Tiffen. I bought this Nano-K series version half expecting to return it but thought it worth testing out given the much lower cost. Construction-wise it is as solid and well made as the Nano-X using the same finely machined “aircraft grade” aluminum. Screw thread is precise and smooth. K&F give very little useful information about the the actual differences between their filter series, except that the Nano-K is meant to be “basic level” compared to the supposedly more professional Nano-X and Nano-X Pro series. If you read the manufacturer’s small print, they are all made from optical grade glass from Japan, have advanced multi-coating and resistant to moisture and mold. So what about the effects performance? Again, I was prepared for disappointment. All brands of this type of black diffusion filter have subtle differences, as is well covered by numerous YouTube videos. The Tiffen for example tends to give slightly less intense diffusion for a given rating (i.e., 1/4 vs. 1/8 etc.) than the Nano-X, but both are equally good a preserving the blacks and fine detail in the mids, which is why we like them. When compared to the Nano-X, I can see no visible difference whatsoever in the image produced by the Nano-K. This was tested on a Canon C100 Mk-2 with a variety of lenses and conditions. For this reason, my advice would be, given the choice between the Nano-X and Nano-K, without hesitation get the latter. A side note: the Nano-K series appears to have been originally marketed in Germany, evident from Google searches and the small print on the packaging, i.e., GmBH, as place of origin. My conspiracy theory is that these were initially targeted for a European demographic and price expectations. Anyway, the bottom line is that here in Canada/USA they are a phenomenal bargain and not to be missed while available.

Filter is well made and feels solid in the hands. I like it has the textured grip on to the edges to make it easier to screw and unscrew. This quarter strength black diffusion filter provides just the right amount of diffusion to the highlights without being overbearing. I feel like any more, and it would be obvious that you have a filter on, but any less, it would go unnoticed. Useful bit to have in your kit.

This is just what I needed. I've been building out my iPhone video rig setup and have been running into the issue that all newer iPhones have with over sharpening images and video. This filter is very very mild, but just strong enough to cut that sharpness. I have it mounted to the Moment universal filter mount adapter, with an ND filter also from K&F, and use a third party app to control the shutter speed and white balance which helps add a bit of motion blur and a more natural depth of field than the cinematic mode in the native camera app. This filter will pretty much live on my iPhone while filming. Works especially well with that ND filter, but on overcast days I just use this Black Diffusion filter and it works great.

As with any filter you put over your lens you are limited to all the images having the soft focus effect. As a digital photographer I have mostly moved to creating effects on my images in post production in Photoshop where you can selectively choose the type and extent of the effect to each image. Early in my career I was using special soft focus filters designed and created by the motion picture industry but I no longer have that set and I wanted to see if this filter would emulate that effect. It does a decent job but it falls short of that system that had multiple filters of varying degrees of soft focus but I knew that when I bought this filter. It's nice to have this filter when I know I will need it for certain subjects but for the most part I will be creating my own filter effects in Photoshop for most jobs. Good value for the money also.

Mirrorless cameras, this filter makes every shot you shoot have a soft they’re looking for the highlights and a good flare in greatest skin tones than normal. This digital video comes across to shop sometimes and this helps with that a lot will definitely make sure that you can see your film at cinematic and clean Chris way while warming up highlights, and Just making the film feel more cinematic more motion picture aside from shooting at 24-25th frames per for second, shooting anamorphic lens is, this is the best thing you can have in your arsenal fourth cinematic Crisp look for a short films.
Kenneth concept always delivers make some of the best filters in the business. Everything is extremely well made. It comes with a very nice wallet to hold your filters in. There is the highest quality, and I can can’t recommend him more than enough.

The black mist filter is a pretty subtle effect. This filter is my first black mist filter. Basically what it does is defocus and soften your images somewhat. I tried a 1/4 filter, but I think I'd prefer the 1/2 for more of the effect it gives. It's fairly easy to soften images a little in your image editor of choice. I think the 1/2 would provide a more natural looking softening than softening in editor software.
The filter itself is well built and the ring is nice and slim. The package came with three sealed microfiber cloths which is quite a handy addition. These filters are inexpensive enough to buy several intensities to try. I'm going to buy a 1/2 next!

I love the softening and glowing effect a black diffusion filter adds to video and photos. It is a great way of reducing sharpness and makes lighting in high contrast situations look mystical. If you want to add a nostalgic soft feel or cut out the digital look of your video then this is a must have filter.

I own the Tiffen black pro most versions of this and I can honestly say that the K&F version does a very good job of replicating that look at a much more affordable price.

I also use and love this filter for photography. Highlights on the skin tend to glow a little more and any lighting in the frame looks as if it haves a slight haze around it. This filter can give you a different look without changing anything other than adding the filter to your lens.

This is a good budget option for those that may not be willing to pay the much higher cost for the Tiffen version.

Modern cameras with good optics produce crisp, sharp photos. You can see every detail here.
No crease, scar, or impurity remains hidden here.

Especially when you want to photograph portraits, this wealth of detail is not always wanted. Unless you want to highlight the wrinkles, etc. as an artistic device.

But if you simply want to create beautiful portraits, this filter can be used. It mitigates precisely these weaknesses, if you can say so, and produces wonderfully soft - though not blurry - results. The contrast is also reduced, which simply creates more beautiful photos from hard and cold light.

The filter I have has a strength of 1/4 and is therefore the second weakest. All the effects mentioned above are therefore present, but not so strong that it appears artificial and perhaps even kittish.

Sure, you can now say that such effects can also be done in post-processing, but this filter saves you a lot of work and has a more analog workflow that I personally really like.

In any case, the filter has already proven itself and is more than worth its - low - price. Especially since there are three good cleaning cloths as a nice bonus.

I can't identify any negative points, so I can give it the full five stars here.

I received the K&F Concept Nano-K series Black-Mist 1/4 filter free of charge for testing. The product was delivered quickly and was securely packaged in a standard retail box.
The filter is well padded in a sturdy plastic box. 3 shrink-wrapped cleaning cloths are included. The filter makes a good visual impression and delivers the promised results in the image. The thread is smooth and fits perfectly. In today's fully digital age, filters have gone out of fashion, as most effects can be added digitally afterwards. For analog photographers or people who don't like to digitally edit images, this filter is highly recommended. The filter strength ¼ results in rather unobtrusive subtle results. The manufacturer describes the filter effect very appropriately. With appropriate step-up adapters, the filter can also be used on smaller lenses. Good filter. Nice effect. Good workmanship Reasonable value for money. 5 stars
