A long time ago I bought a Super VHS camcorder, and first thing, recorded my parents. I plugged it in to the TV and played it back. My mother said "That's no good." I asked why. Her response was, "The picture is too clear. Who wants to see themselves that clearly?"
Zoom ahead around 40 years and I have a Nikon full frame DSLR. Take a picture of someone from across the room, and you can see every pore. That's really not necessary.
Enter the diffusion lens.
This one is built beautifully. The glass is almost invisible, and the ring is sturdy and has ridges for easy gripping. And the storage case is nice, too.
It's a 1.4 diffusion filter, so the effect is subtle. But it is there, and it works.
Great filter at a good price.

I like the effect this filter has on video. It tends to soften out the shadows without losing detail, and makes the scenes feel a bit more cohesive. The 1/4 filter provides a good balance where it is enough to get the softening effect without being too obvious. The lighting you use with this filter really has an impact on the result though.

The build quality of the K&F filters is fantastic for the price. The threads are cut well and don't bind at all, even on the larger size. Overall, I'm very pleased with this filter.

I own around a dozen different filters developed by K&F and I'm a big fan of their UV filters in particular. If you know, you know. I've only recently become aware that they are offering FX filters, so I was very excited to try this. Friends: this filter works. Period. Not only does it add a nice haloing effect to your subject's faces, but it uniformly softens textures throughout the image. Why is that a big deal? Because as we enter grad portrait season, this filter eases the effort of performing touch ups to acne and scars. Rather than endlessly tuning masking and fixes with blotchy results, this filter cuts that workload in half, while your edits remain consistent with the rest of the unedited image. This simple filter is a game-changer!

Have a lot of K&F filters - really, a LOT of filters in general - and this one is good quality with a solid plastic case.

1/4 is subtle, perhaps too subtle for some things and so I never bought one before. I could see using this more because of that.

I use to make my living, in San Francisco, shooting photography and creating art. So, I tend to be very demanding of my equipment. But those demands are tempered by reason.

This black diffusion filter, with very smooth threads and solid construction, by its design nature, alters the image your sensor, and glass, would normally make. And that's good. Today's camera's tend to be super sharp and they create crispy images.

Sometimes, to get the proper feel that you're going for, you want to knock down that sharpness, and specular highlights, a bit. That's where this filter comes in.

It does a great job of almost imperceptibly taking the edge off.

I can see myself using this filter a lot for night shots and for video shooting.

5 stars. One heck of a good price for a filter that performs very well.

Just used this for the first time on a corporate interview style shoot a few days ago, on an older subject who was concerned about their appearance on-camera. I have nice lenses that are VERY sharp, and tend to pick up and accentuate every tiny detail. The 1/4 strength was perfect for proving just a bit of flattering softness, without losing sharpness or contrast or looking overly "glowy."

I won't use this for every shoot, but to add a bit of character or softness to portraits, certain interviews, wedding footage, etc., it hits the mark.

Quality is top notch. Smooth threading on and off my lens, comes well padded in an appropriately sized case. I have a full set of big name Black Pro Mist filters, and these are every bit as good.

Would recommend these without hesitation!

If you want to know what shooting with this filter looks like and you wear glasses, just let your glasses get really dirty with drywall dust. Every becomes softer and less detailed. If that the look you are after, this filter provides it in spades. It's a well made filter and doesn't cause any optical issues (apart from the intentional softening). No color shifts or added flares. With the 82mm version I saw no noticeable vignetting either. The knurling is well done as well. I'm impressed by the quality of this filter and will be looking at other K&F filters in the future.

There's always a more expensive and nicer filter to get. I do like the K&F filters. for the price range their making nice filters and not just offering one filter thats overkill. I like to stack these kind of filters to get what I want. As time goes on I keep getting picker about my shots and I'm just a novice.
