Diffusion filters like this come in "black" and "white." The white ones I like to call "bottom up" diffusors. They increase the brightness of the shadows as they diffuse.
A black diffuser is a "top down" diffuser, taking the highlights down slightly while softening the image.
Fits my Canon L-series lenses perfectly, and as a diffusion effect, gives nice image quality at a good price. In fact, where some types of filters are worth paying the premium, a diffusion filter is a place to save a little cash when you can. Since the effect itself essentially degrades the image to get a creative effect, so long as the creative effect looks good, you're getting your money's worth.

Affordable and gives your photos a nice, dreamy vibe with great light diffusion. Perfect for portraits and street photograhpy. Worth it if you’re into cool effects without breaking the bank.

bought this filter to soften the look from my Nikon Z7 . At times I just don't want the super sharp look. This filter does slight softening of the image when I need it. Good product and it works very well .

Well, if you want to give it a different style, I have to be honest, 1/4 is a lot, but it gives a dreamy effect. I have the same one in 1/8 and it's great for day and night.
