Where To Find A Telescope?

Kentfaith 2026-07-01 00:55:28 0 Comments

website online where you can buy telescopes that's reliable

where to find a telescope 1

  • high point scientific. they have excellent customer service and you can ask them anything.
  • astronomics agena astro oceanside photo and telescope orion telescopes , just to name a few.
  • optcorp is like the amazon of astronomy. they're big, usually have everything in stock, plus great customer service. i've ordered multi-thousand dollar mounts from them and even returned one. very reputable.
  • high point scientific and agena astro are both a good bit smaller than opt but they're great for smaller items (small scopes, eyepieces, accessories, etc). i find they ship quicker than opt and they'll have things in stock that opt sometimes doesn't.
  • i purchased an eyepiece from agena which ended up having a defect. they apologized profusely and sent me a replacement and a return shipping label. immediately rectified the problem.
  • those are my personal experiences, fwiw.

dedicated astronomy retailers

where to find a telescope 2

  • like you i also avoid amazon. jeff bezos doesn't need any of my money. with astronomy gear, its really good to buy directly from dedicated astronomy retailers since they have a good knowledge base of their products.
  • b&h photo has some at competitive prices from what i remember. stock is probably more limited than a dedicated astronomy retailer though
  • should i buy from a place like b&h photos? whats the difference between a dedicated telescope retailer and b&h?
  • agena, bh photo, highpoint scientific, orion i have used all of these with great service.
  • high point scientific - awesome customer service!
  • adorama b&h photo opt is overpriced imo

used astronomy gear

where to find a telescope 3

  • you can also find good used astronomy gear on astromart. the classifieds on cloudynights is also a good source.
  • cloudynights and astromart (astromart is about 5-20$) membership) are the best for used gear which 99/100 times is just as good. just don’t pay with non secure payments like venmo.
  • e-bay for pre-owned. cloudy nights website classifieds ads section.
  • i would add that you can find amazing deals on the fb market place and on apps like offerup. i found my orion 130st for $100. i missed the chance to buy an apertura 8” dobsonian for $150 from a person who needed to sell and did not appreciate it. you can find deals all day long!
  • fb can be good, it’s just not great at producing search results for astronomy equipment. when it does, most of the listings of equipment are junk.
  • offerup is an absolute garbage app in my opinion.

local stores and astronomy club

where to find a telescope 4

  • zacleach - it would help if you would include a generalized location. you could be in india, as far as we know. shipping might kill the deal then.
  • i've personally delt with oceanside photo & telescopes, orion, (both california) and astrono in oklahoma
  • visit an astronomy club and actually look thru some scopes.
  • get an idea what you might want...
  • edit pick up a copy of sky and telescope magazine - or - astronomy magazine - or - both && visit your local library.
  • i would be happy to recommend first light optics and harrison telescopes. i am in the uk.
  • you could buy a telescope from rother valley optics

buying a telescope online

  • telescope facts: choosing the right telescope
  • choosing the right telescopes online for you and your family can be a fun and enlightening experience if you take the time to answer a few key questions first.
  • don't worry, this is not a test on your telescope knowledge!
  • we would just like you to ponder the following five questions, and by doing so, you will automatically narrow down your telescope choices to a more manageable level and have a greater chance of picking out the best telescope!

where do you plan to use your telescope?

  • most people use their telescope from the comfort of their own backyards, and most set up their telescope each time they plan to use it.
  • if this is how you imagine using your new telescope, then you want to buy a telescope that is easy and fast to set up and break down.
  • remember, the best telescope is the one you will use!
  • what if you live in the city and plan to take your telescope to a dark-sky site for better views?
  • most telescopes are built to travel but again, consider whether the telescope will fit in your vehicle and if you can set it up on your own.
  • of course, if you want a telescope that can be set up on the roadside at a moment's notice, portability and ease of use are paramount.
  • it is also a good idea to buy a telescope case for those "have telescope, will travel" moments in order to protect your scope and make it easier to carry!

how much can you spend on a telescope?

  • most people have no idea how much they will need to spend to buy a decent telescope that will let them observe most everything they are interested in.
  • it probably will not help you to know that the price of telescopes runs the gamut from around $100 to over $10,000, because really, it all comes down to what you are willing to spend, not what's available.
  • if the telescope in question is for a child and you are not sure how long their interest in astronomy will last, it is perfectly reasonable to choose a kid's telescope on the lower end of the price scale.
  • we do recommend you choose a telescope, however, that has a sturdy, easy to use mount and optics that are big enough to see an array of objects.
  • similarly, a telescope for an adult should be sturdy, move easily, and have quality optics that are big enough to see their items of interest.
  • prices will also increase for computerized telescopes, but if you can swing it, a goto computerized telescope is worth it!
