Can You Turn Off Light On Ring Camera?
Many Ring camera users want to turn off or adjust the lights on their devices — whether it's the status LED, the floodlight, or the infrared night vision light. The options available depend on the specific camera model and the type of light in question.
Adjusting Light Brightness in the Ring App
If the light on your Ring device is too bright or too dim, you can change the light settings in the Ring app. For security cameras:
- Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
- Adjust the light brightness setting with the slider.
- Tap the light icon at the bottom of your screen to turn on or turn off.
The brightness slider is available for floodlight and spotlight cam plus and pro models only.

Controlling Floodlight and Spotlight Cam Lights
- Turn lights on or off
- Tap the lightbulb icon to turn the lights on or off.
- Automatic light activation
- Toggle the switch to enable or disable automatic light activation when motion is detected at night. When enabled, the lights will turn on when motion is detected.
- Light duration
- Tap to select the length of time (from 30 seconds to 15 minutes) that the lights will remain on when motion is detected. Note: automatic shut-off timer is not available for spotlight cam plus and pro battery.
- Motion zones for lights
- Tap on or off on each pre-set zone to customise areas where motion triggers the lights to turn on.
- Light sensitivity
- Use a slider to adjust the distance at which your lights will detect motion.
- Light schedule
- Select the days of the week for the light schedule to be active. Tap an existing schedule and make desired adjustments. You can turn a light schedule on or off by tapping the switch next to the desired schedule.

Turning Off Motion-Triggered Lights Completely
The light on/off switch in the app doesn't impact motion detection for turning on/off the light. The light motion detection and the camera motion zones are different things. To stop lights from turning on automatically from motion detection:
- Go to the device → Device Settings → Light Settings → Motion Zones for Lights.
- Tap the 3 on blue zones to turn them off.
- Tap Save.
Once you do that, your lights will never turn on automatically from motion detection.

Disabling the Blue Status LED
The Ring app does not have an option to disable the blue LED light that signifies when your doorbell or camera is recording. Ring has acknowledged this feedback on their feature request board.
- It seems like a bad design to have a flashing blue light during motion sensor, as an intruder can immediately know where the camera is.
- The blue light is also on during live view, not only during recording.
- For the gen 2 indoor cam, the blue light is only on while recording, and there is currently no in-app option to turn it off.
- There used to be a setting to disable it, but this option was removed in a later software version.

Workarounds for the Blue LED
Since there is no in-app setting to disable the blue LED, users have found the following physical workarounds:
- Put a small piece of electric or duct tape over the blue light. It still tracks motion and records, and the blue light is no longer visible.
- Use black nail polish to paint over the light.
- Use LightDims original strength light dimming LED covers — small dot stickers placed over the blue lights. Using two stickers on top of each other can fully block it out.
Note: if you cover the red infrared light along with the blue light, you will lose night vision illumination in dark rooms, and may also cover the motion detection sensor.
Disabling Infrared Lights for Night Vision
To turn off the infrared lights used for night vision, go to the camera you want → click the gear icon → scroll down to Device Settings → Video Settings → uncheck infrared lights for night vision. Note that disabling infrared lights will remove night vision illumination in dark rooms.
Troubleshooting Lights Not Working as Expected
- Make sure you're testing when it's dark. If it is already bright, the camera will not turn on the lights.
- Try adjusting your motion and light settings, such as increasing the light sensitivity or changing the motion zones for lights setting to cover more area.
- Make sure the device has a charged battery or is wired to a compatible power source.
- Power cycle the device by removing the battery or turning off the wired power source.
- Factory reset the device by holding the setup button for 20 seconds. You will need to reconnect the device in the Ring app.
