What Do You Use Your Smartwatch For?

Kentfaith 2026-07-30 01:00:47 0 Comments

basic daily uses

  • sleep tracking , step counting, notifications, and most of all....................wait for it..................
  • seeing what time it is!!!
  • sleep tracking. easy access to music player when i don't want to take my phone out of my pocket. checking the weather etc
  • for me, it's certain notifications, ekg, simple timers, media control, and upcoming calendar items today.
  • heart rate, fitness, notifications, payments and sleep tracking.
  • all of the above, plus morning alarm. vibration wakes me without disturbing my partner
  • i use it to track my workout
  • i only do 2 things with mine, rotate different watch faces and check my heart beat that's it. and there doesn't need to be a purpose i just like the way they look

notifications, calls, texts

  • for it's notifications in meetings when i can't really check my phone.
  • heart rate lte version so i can also send and receive texts and also make and receive calls. but i rarely use it for that other than receiving texts.
  • aside from many of things already listed, i like the speaker phone. samsung's work well. you can just answer a call without getting to your phone or stopping what you are doing.
  • i'm a teacher and i usually can't check my phone during the day. the text/call feature is nice in this situation.
  • i just bought it on a whim hoping not to touch my smartphone when i am out and about (mainly for security reasons handling my phone in public).
  • i've been happy with the sleep tracking, heart rate monitor and also being able to text and ring people using the watch.
  • it's a watch that can track my sleep, i can text off of, i can get and receive phone calls without my phone anywhere near me as i have lte, it tracks my fitness and i can get email on it. basically it's almost a wrist size cell phone... not just a fitbit to measure my steps etc. i had one didn't like it it was too limited.

fitness and health tracking

  • tracks my steps and workouts, let's me pay without having my phone on me, has room for 500 songs if my phone dies, can me used to make and receive calls of my phone dies.
  • i use mine to track steps, notifications, and workouts. plus the watch face can change to match my outfits (limited but it looks nice). is it a necessity. no, i could do the same with a pedometer and i don't need the workout tracking as it's just a nice benefit to see where my heart rate is. i like it though.
  • also, i like the step counter and calorie burner but really don't know how accurate the heart rate and sleep monitors are.
  • it's for health tracking. i've had mine for almost 3 weeks, and it's great. the step counter is accurate, which is needed for me.
  • i'm a delivery truck driver, and my old standard watch counted thousands of extra "steps" while driving. my galaxy watch 6 classic barely counts anything while driving.
  • it might add anywhere from 10-50 steps after driving for an hour and a half, but quite often nothing extra at all.
  • it's just a way more helpful watch than standard when it comes to exercise.
  • so everytime i look at my watch i seey last workout is how many days ago and remind myself what a lazy fk i am for working out x days ago

fitness, health, safety, messaging, information

  • usually boils down to one of these 5
  • fitness tracking (workouts steps, calories, vo2, route)
  • health tracking (sleep, rhr, hrv, stress, o2 sat, ecg, afib)
  • safety (crash detection, fall detection, personal back up cell phone)
  • notifications & messaging (alerts, updates, texts, etc. without having to take phone out of pocket)
  • information - can see things like weather, stocks, hr, stress, messages without taking phone out of pocket
  • if you don’t need any of these things, then there isn’t any point to a smartwatch.
  • if you're elderly, it will make an emergency call if you fall, or warn you if your heart rate has an anomaly.

music and phone-free use

  • from what i understand i could also use it to drive my ear buds but in practice i just use my phone since i almost always have it. but it would be nice in theory sometimes to leave the phone at home and just use the watch and my buds to listen to music while jogging or such.
  • being able to listen to downloaded music while running without my phone on me is also handy.
  • i have a samsung s22 ultra, which isn't comfortable to run with.
  • with location sharing, it also gives me a more accurate run distance.
  • sleep tracking, air quality measure (because i have difficulty breathing), weather, custom watch faces that at worst price cost a dollar, reminder, the fact that i can play music through the watch, hey google feature and much more.
  • i mean sure, these could be done by a phone, but i'm still happy with the watch regardless

reminders, timers, lists

  • mobile to-do list, reminder alert, pomodoro timer etc. that's not on a phone, so i'm less likely to get stuck in a scrolling loop
  • i work in a kitchen and i don't want to put my clean hands on my dirty ass phone all the time.
  • with my watch i can control everything including message replies via voice.
  • i also use it to set multiple timers throughout my work day, and a set time specific reminders as well.
  • i run my grocery shopping list for my home through the google note app because i can add things both on my watch on my smart displays at home or through my phone or tablet.
  • when i go shopping i pull up the list on my watch and just click the boxes on the shopping list app to mark them as i go through the store.

watch face and controls

  • one plus is having a cool watch that doesn't require me to buy a new battery every 9+ months.
  • it's been a year and 2 months since i bought my gw6 and had nothing to worry about except changing bands to match my clothing.
  • i've also built a few automations for my watch face one turns on the hotspot on my phone one pulls up my google home app so i can check my thermostat temperature and door locks one button actually unlocks one of my doors remotely and then i have some monitors that tell me my phone battery and the weather forecast specifically the chance of rain which i can then click on and pull up more detailed information right from the face.
  • i'm not too into the health aspects but a lot of people are into that as well it'll track your sleep work outs heart rate stress level etc

smartwatch apps

many of your favorite apps that are available on your smartphone are also available to download straight to your smartwatch. check out these cool smartwatch apps² available free with a galaxy watch:

  • · strava - to track your runs and other workouts
  • · wrist camera - to take that perfectly timed selfie from your phone
  • · uber - for when you need a quick ride elsewhere
  • · samsung smartthings- to help manage your samsung home devices
  • · samsung browser - the world wide web, right at your fingertips

tracking health and fitness

one of the most popular reasons that people look to buy a smartwatch is to track fitness. many smartwatches can do exactly what most popular fitness trackers do, but with the added benefit of receiving notifications and other mobile phone functions. meaning you don’t always need to carry your phone around when you’re on the move.

thanks to the built-in gps (global positioning systems) on galaxy smartwatches you can track your running routes accurately and efficiently. you’ll find optional gps tracking features³ in many of the best galaxy smartwatches including the latest galaxy watch6watch6 classicsamsung health and innovative bioactive sensor technology, your galaxy smartwatch can help you track a plenthora of health-related stats.⁴

text and voice messages

one of the features that makes a smartwatch most like a smartphone is the ability to send both text and voice messages. with galaxy watch, this is supported by our pre-installed messages app that allows you to create new messages, or view incoming messages and send replies. plus, if you’re more than 10 yards away from your connected phone, galaxy watch⁵ will use mobile data to operate so there’s no need to carry your phone with you when you’re out pounding the trails.

notifications

if your phone and your smartwatch aren’t in the same room, you’ll still be able to see any notifications pop up on the watch’s interface. this is a very handy feature that means you don’t need to carry your phone around with you everywhere, especially when you’re doing things that might need your hands to be free; such as cycling, running or simply cooking dinner.

mobile wallet

many smartwatches samsung pay to store your card information, meaning it’s readily accessible at the click of a button. you no longer need to have your wallet and phone on you when you’re out and about.⁶ and don’t worry - it’s just as secure as it is on your mobile phone!

daily use examples

  • the thing i do with it most often is check the time, but there’s usually a clock around, or i could pull out my phone.
  • the thing i do most often that i rarely did before i had a smartwatch is check the temperature. i could do that on my phone too, of course, but not so conveniently.
  • perhaps the alarms. i have them set, not only to wake me up, but to keep me on schedule.
  • really, the most useful function overall is that it lets me do these things without the risk of falling into the time sink a smartphone can be.

daily fitness goals and progress

by wearing my smartwatch daily, i can set fitness goals and track my progress. my smartwatch counts my daily steps, how many calories i burn, how many minutes i work out, and how many hours that i am standing. i primarily work from home, so this feature is extremely helpful for me. on the smartwatch, you can log workouts based on the type of workout, and the watch tracks how many calories you burn while working out. when walking or running, the watch tracks mileage so you can see how far you’ve gone.

navigation, music, texts, camera

  • when driving, the last thing i want to do is look at my phone for directions, especially since michigan introduced the new phone law last summer that bans holding a phone while driving. if you start the maps app on your watch, it will direct you from your wrist, buzzing you before each turn or change to alert you.
  • when i go for long walks or runs, i don’t want to have my phone in my hands or weigh down my pockets. you can connect wireless headphones to your smartwatch and listen to music from there. be sure to download playlists or podcast episodes in advance because the smartwatch can’t always play music when not near your phone.
  • when i am doing work or trying to concentrate on something, i try to put my phone away so it doesn’t distract me. however, i sometimes worry that i will miss an important text message. having my texts come through on my smartwatch is very helpful because that way i know i will be alerted if something is important. it provides peace of mind while also keeping me in the loop.
  • my smartwatch has a camera application on it that connects to the one on my phone. i can control the camera from my watch so if i want to take a photo but don’t want to set up a timer, i can use the camera app. also, if i misplace my phone, i can use this same app to see where my phone is.
